So I have had incredibly positive experiences with Backcountry. Everything from gear heads, to YouTube reviews. The only area that NEEDS to be improved is their app. It freezes, it’s slow, it crashes. And it does all of these things frequently. I normally look for something quick on the app before it fails and then later I go onto my computer and order what I want to order. They really need to figure this out, because they really are a high quality company.
I want to like and use this app but how do you navigate back to a previous page? I have to re-enter my search keywords and start over after I’ve clicked a product.
I would love to buy stuff from backcountry, but half the time the page doesn’t load all the way, or I can’t scroll, or it freezes. Terrible app for a great store. I try to buy stuff, but give up out of frustration.

I wanted to like the Backcountry app. They have good selection and usually good pricing on the web and in thru stores. Their app is very glitchy. It crashes quite often. Eg, click sale link and then try to filter on categories or brands. The app crashes with a blank white screen. Sometimes it goes back to homepage others it just hangs. I raised this through chat and they said “update the app”. The app hasn’t been updated in a year. Separately. If you order anything from them the start texting you and emailing. It’s all or nothing (eg, no texts or many texts). If you click on something in the app or email about 1/2 hour later you’ll get a text saying we see you looking at those shoes, come back and buy. Or thanks for looking at ski pants, here’s some others to look at. It’s constant and no way to limit the type or amount of text without turning off completely. (They do have great sales occasionally so…). Wish they’d do better.
The amount of clothing companies that get this right is vast. I’m assuming the person/people overseeing this UI/UX is buddy buddy with someone who can’t be honest with them. You have the gear but you don’t have the right engineering team. It’s so frustrating that I have gone to other sites to make my purchases. I will spend more at their competitors because the hassle isn’t worth it. PLEASE FIX THIS APP. It’s been this bad for a long time.
Constant app crashes. Unusable
No way to go back. No way to print label from app. Very poor navigation. This app seems like it was created when the iPhone 1 came out. I expect more from back country.
The app is quite literally just the website minus all of the features of using it in an actual browser, including as people have been mentioning, a back button.
I’m not sure what happened in the last few months, but both the iOS app and the mobile site of Backcountry have really stopped being usable…constant sign in requests, email signon code never works, changing password, that “I’m not a robot” check…all of it is useless lately. Tried buying things several times and it feels like Backcountry has been hacked or hijacked by a non entity. Really sad to see because it used to be great! Go back to however things were before, you’ve literally missed out on at least $1,700 in things I would have purchased that I ended up buying elsewhere because the app and mobile site are awful.
The app definitely struggles. One of the most frustrating parts is not having a back button that scrolls up and down with you. Trying to shop for gear is a mind numbing experience.
It’s slow and touchy signing in - sometimes it doesn’t work at all. I end up having to sign in multiple times while shopping. When I open images sometimes it gets stuck in zoomed-in state and the only way to get back is to close and reopen, so you lose your place and context. These things combine to waste a lot of time. Other apps seem to handle these features fine so why can’t Backcountry?
Used to be great. Non functional on IOS now for weeks and weeks. Downhill trend.
I love backcountry, as does anyone with outdoor hobbies! But this app is exactly the website but without a ‘back’ button… simple error they can and should fix, but extremely inconvenient when browsing/shopping! I LOVE YOU BACKCOUNTRY, but I’ll be continuing to use the browser version over your app…
The app just redirects to the website. What’s the point of the app?
It is bugged and keeps redirecting me straight to the website. Like why do we even have the app at this point? I don’t need a glorified shopping list.
It’s 2024. You’ve opted to require a re-sign in when going to your cart & purchasing something. On top of that, utilizing PayPal is literally impossible. Your rerouting script is wrong. It brings you to a page that dead ends you. Fire your IT employees, the app is atrocious.
I wish this app would work I love the company, but it’s a better user experience to use a browser so I have a back button to return to my search page. All that space for ads and robo-chat but no back button..
… and now there’s no back button when viewing products. Hopefully you were only looking for the one.
I always order online from different websites . I bought jacket and they cancelled and said . They can’t ship because they felt uncomfortable . Worst company ever ! Shame on you
Have loved Backcountry for many years - love their products and attention to customer service. But MAN, I can’t use this App. It crashes every time I use it and I haven’t been able to complete a single shopping trip with it for at least a year (glitches at cart; have to login multiple times; screen reads error; etc) PLEASE FIX THE APP! so we can shop on the go, especially when we’re out shredding and realizing that this gear would be excellent for little bro/sis!!
Every time the app opens the t immediately crashes if I search for any item. The app is now unusable. Have deleted, reinstalled, etc, but have the same result every time.
Very slow and unreliable and nothing more than their website in app form. It also makes you log in every time without saving your info. Not really worth the download.
It has always bothered me that i have to scroll back to the top of every product page to press “back” at the top left of the screen. Feels poorly designed. On a recent return, the confirmation email does not include the shipping label or a link to it but rather instructions to go to “my account” and “print shipping label”. Once there on iphone, the shipping label takes up the whole screen, the print button doesnt take you anywhere, and you have to force quit the app because you cant otherwise close the print label. I had to chat with a representative who was terse and slow to get a label sent to me. Shouldnt be that hard!
Love the gear and sales Backcountry. But you can’t show love for updating your app? Every time I use, I have to login and it takes multiple times for that to even work? Then if I browse down any path, click into my cart or wish list, and then go to the home it just starts over and I loose my item/place I was browsing. Plus loading is soooo slow (modem startup sound effects go here). I know. Too bad, so sad. Guess I should just shop on the website from my phone. But if you’re looking for a more streamlined experience using the app, you ain’t getting it. Love you Backcountry — maybe love us back with a little app love?
Every few days i get logged out
I’ve purchased lots of products from backcountry over the years and I really love the variety of products that they offer. However, the app is so frustrating to use. It feels like it is always one step from shutting down, as it freezes and lags nearly every time I use it. It has a bug where I will add things to my wishlist but when I go to open the wishlist it will say there are 0 items in there. It is not always clear which “back” button will take me back to shopping and which will take me back to the homepage, meaning all the filters I applied to my search (a process that is painstakingly slow because of the lag) have been lost and I have to start over. Check out REI’s app, it’s much better and smoother. This literally makes it hard for me to buy your products backcountry. Thanks 👍🏻
This app is in much need of improvement. I love backcountry but it’s about to be a dealbreaker.
Sells garbage stuff. Wrong fit across all categories. Delays in shipping. And then you have to pay for the return shipping. 0 stars. Horrible horrible stay away!!!
I wish they would fix this app. Errors in logging in everytime. Logs you out each time you close the app. You’re better off using the mobile site.

Doesn’t work
Makes me sign in. No face ID. Password doesn't work - even after the inconvenience. My one star rating is for the app - not Backcountry. And the app used to work. I just use my PC or MacBook instead of the app now.
I LOVE Backcountry and buy wayyyy to much from them but this app is absolute junk! Constantly freezing, logging me out, telling me password is incorrect multiple times before logging me in with the same password and clearing out my cart. As the title says, great company, atrocious app.
Backcountry is great if you use their website. Their app is just pretty trash tbh. Never remembers to keep you logged in, glitches out, takes a while to load, etc. hopefully can be fixed soon cause I like backcountry and buy their products all the time.

I like Backcountry for their selection and sales. The app, however, is a failure. I’ve had it for over a year and stopped using it thinking that surely they’d get if fixed. I can only imagine how much business they’re losing. Here I am scrolling in bed for some running clothes tonight and I’m going over to REI because I had to reset filters 5x before I gave up (4x too many). I hope they can get it together. I do my best shopping in that drowsy, should be asleep, state. Enough to impulse buy, not enough patience to fight the app. If the developers are paying attention, I also want the wishlist shareable. I used the REI list for Christmas last year because I could give the link to family.
Love the company and the ease of access to customer service. There are some minor things about this app that really bug me though. I constantly have to log back in to my account even if I have not exited out of the app. Whenever I’m browsing a specific, filtered search and I want to tap on an item to look closer, when I go back, it sends me to the home page. Then I have to go back to the search and input the filters every time. Could just be my older model iPhone, but the app is incredibly slow too. If all these problems were solved I might consider using the app more.
The app itself is great easy to navigate. Very useful to search for what you need or want. BUUUUT it will not keep me logged in and can not remember my password. I know it is the correct spelling and everything. I sign in on the web no problem. Changed password a couple times thinking it was my fault but no. App doesn’t let me log in. That’s why I’m only giving two stars. Has some bug issues in that aspect.
I love Backcountry as a place to buy gear, but hate the app. Having to constantly sign back in to my account seems unnecessary as no other e-commerce app requires such frequent sign-ins. Edit: now Backcountry is requiring users to prove we are not robots with a photo challenge…every single time. And it does not work half the time. Amazon doesn’t require this so not sure why Backcountry is making their app so unusable.

Don't use the Backcountry app. It only makes the shopping experience terrible. Use the website version cause it isn't purposely bugged so you will be tricked into buying more products. Whenever you put anything into your Wishlist in the app, navigating back to where you were shopping makes the entire page refresh and takes you back to the homepage. Every. Single. Time. Never remembers where you left off during Search. But this doesnt happen if you put the item in your cart instead. Interesting, right? Also, the pop up promotions continue to occur regardless if you declined or x'd out the first time. This is particularly persistent with the "Subscribe to our email and text alerts and receive 15% off (full priced items only)." Constantly popping up is so annoying. (fyi i already signed up and it still happens). Just downloaded the app yesterday and i hate it already.
Please work on your app. I can’t even login and if the login it works I try and shop and it’s crashes 9/10 times. Please send out an update.
Backcountry is a disaster and I have no idea how this company is staying in business. I ordered a Captain Comfort Deluxe mattress at the beginning of May, 2023 in the 52 x 78 in. size. My order was processed and arrived a few days later, but what was shipped was the 30 x 78 in size. I reached out to Backcountry and they apologized and sent me a return label and told me an exchange was in the mail. A few days later the new mattress showed up and it was another 30 x 78 in configuration. I reached out to Backcountry again and made it very clear in our conversation that I ordered the 52 x 78 size, and their order emails to me SHOW it should be the 52 x 78 size. Another apology from them and a promise that a replacement was on it’s way. Well, the replacement showed up today and guess what… it was a 30 x 78. For those of you keeping score at home that’s now 3 times in a row they have sent the wrong mattress size. I’ve already received a return label from them and will be getting a refund. I can’t imagine ever trying to buy something from these clowns again.
I love Backcountry as a company and have purchased gear from them for decades off of the website. The app however, for me, is not user friendly. I have found out that the filters do not work properly. For instance while searching for trekking poles their are 83 options but when I tried to filer by price it would till show me all of them. The same issue has happened on other parts of the app. I’ll use the app to casually browse but will deep dive off the website. Once again the company is 5 stars, the app needs work.
Add items to cart, start checkout, sign into my account, “your cart is currently empty”. It took me lots of time to find the items I wanted, I’m not starting over. guess I’m not buying from backcountry.
What is great? The layout, the pretty UI, the clean aesthetic. Nice. What’s not great? The functionality. I can’t use this app, which means that no matter how pretty you make it, it doesn’t matter if I can’t use it. Example: Today, I login to buy a shirt. Order complete. I go to continue shopping. (Things are going okay, yeah?) I toggle to my wishlist, but get a prompt to log in again. I try, authentication fails. Despite the same password and user. I try again, fails. Again, fails. I try resetting my password. THAT WHOLE EXPERIENCE needs work too. I give up, delete the app from my phone again. I will use visit backcountry on my computer seldom, and prioritize REI and local retailers.
I love backcountry as an organization. Their selection of products and customer service is outstanding! The app is a different story though. It crashes or won’t load sometimes, but the biggest frustration is that it logs you out of the app pretty much every time you use it. And when you try to log back in, it tells you your password is incorrect. You have to enter the password that Backcountry says is incorrect about 4 times before it actually works.
